TWCorp's Executive Director, Harin De Saram recently participated in the annual AmCham SL CxO Forum - Unlocking 2024, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka. The panel comprised of Mr. Dhananath Fernando, CEO Advocata Institute, Mr. Sulaiman Nisthar, Partner EY and Mr. Alajandro Alvarez de la Campa - Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives International Finance Corporation (IFC). During this influential forum, our Executive Director highlighted key insights on the opportunities in externally driven sectors in the current economic landscape.

He emphasized the promising outlook for the tourism sector, predicting a remarkable growth of over 60% in arrivals (2.4 million) or revenues exceeding USD 4 billion in 2024. He pointed out clear opportunities in infrastructure development, service enhancement, and digital transformation, with a focus on creating employment opportunities.

The discussion extended to the port and logistics sector, where increased intra-region trade flows, especially from India, are expected to drive overall transshipment volumes. Specific opportunities were identified in terminal operations, bunkering, warehousing, and other tolling activities. 

Harin further stressed the importance of embracing cost-effective digital technologies to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience. He highlighted the potential for technology-led expansion and the strategic use of data analytics in the financial and digital transformation sectors.

Significant opportunities were outlined in the modernization of the agriculture value chain through technology, mechanization, and digitization. Technical support from multilateral agencies and donors is expected to play a pivotal role in this transformative process.  

In addition to external opportunities, Harin urged corporates to adopt a defensive mindset and prioritize ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) readiness.
